Description

These are special drop-in felting sessions taking place at the Furzie Studio during Somerset Art Works Open Studios, which runs from 13 to 28 September. Please be aware that the studio will be open to visitors whilst these short workshops are taking place.

In one to two hours you will needlefelt either a hare or a reindeer, which will be poseable due to a wire armature.

Not suitable for children under the age of 12 due to the use of sharp needles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is needlefelting?

Although it has its roots in a centuries old form of cloth making, needle-felting is a relatively new art, an off-shoot of industrial felt-making from the nineteenth century.  Woollen fibres are bonded together using specially designed barbed needles to form a firm material which can be made into 3-D shapes.

  • Do I have to be good at sewing?

No sewing (or glueing) involved.  You will be amazed how the fibres bond together with just a little stabbing.

  • Do I have to be artistic?

No!  We use a wire armature frame in the models which immediately helps you with proportions.  You will be gently guided through the entire process.  Relax and enjoy - you only have yourself to please.
